Project Preview 8/27: Alley Rocket, Tony Newbury, Twilla, CornerMade Qua

Alley Rocket - Goat (Single)

Continuing the Sexy Drill trend that has New York City in a chokehold right now, Alley Rocket takes his turn utilizing the sound that Cash Cobain has pioneered, and effectively served as the soundtrack to this Summer. The Goat in question is the object of Alley Rocket’s affection. A woman who has everything he wants and needs. As he croons to her in autotune, the instrumental keeps things groovy. Although its elements and stylings have inundated our ears for the past several months, Alley Rocket keeps things short and sweet here, as the track is only a minute and fifty-one seconds.

If you’re a fan of the Slizzy Summer we’ve been having, you’ll like this track a lot. Listen to it when it drops on August 28th!

Tony Newbury - Good Will Come (Single)

A piano-supported melody serves as the backbone of this insightful track from Tony Newbury. Looking back at the sacrifices made along the way, Tony reflects upon his journey as an artist thus far. Thinking about the hardships and adversity he’s faced along the way, between fake friends and family struggles, Tony has encountered it all. The constant through all of that, though, has been the battle he has with himself on a daily basis. It’s a vulnerable piece of art, that is reminiscent of some of Drake’s older work in terms of beat selection and subject matter.

If you like Neo-Soul, this track is up your alley. Give it a listen when it drops on August 30th!

Twilla - No Love In The Morning (Single)

A smooth and sultry track, this song has a dark and dreamy aesthetic to its sound and overall presentation. The singing here is almost haunting, and I really appreciate how the vocals are layered, as it adds depth to the sound not often found in other tracks. The instrumental relies on a punchy kick, a bouncy hi-hat, and a snare that rears its head every now and then. The sounds of the synths in the background are a great touch, and help flesh out the musical atmosphere.

If you like R&B, you’re bound to enjoy this track. Add it to your playlist when it drops on September 13th!

CornerMade Qua - Oochie Wally (Single)

Relying on a sample of the Nas and Bravehearts classic of the same name, CornerMade Qua plays on the famous rhythm to spit a flurry of bars talking about fine women and navigating the streets warily. Despite the sample, the instrumental has enough musical ideas at play that help keep things fresh and avoid the sample fatigue that plagues a lot of new music nowadays. CornerMade Qua flows on the beat well, helping make the track his own over the two-minute and seventeen-second runtime.

If you like Trap, then you’ll like this track too. Blast it when it drops on September 17th.
